15th Annual "Summer Sings": University Musical Society Choral Union. July 14, 21, & 28 (different locations). All singers welcome to join this venerable local chorus and guest conductors for read-throughs of favorite choral works. Participants practice the more difficult parts of each night's piece and, after a break, sing it in its entirety, with regional professionals singing the solos. No auditions required; music provided. "The Zula Patrol: Under the Weather"/"Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity": U-M Exhibit Museum Planetarium. Every Monday-Friday. The Zula Patrol (12:30 p.m.) is an animated audiovisual exploration of weather, both terrestrial and interplanetary. Black Holes (2:30 p.m.) is an animated audiovisual show that begins with the formation of the early universe and the birth and death of stars and concludes with a simulated flight to a supermassive black hole lurking at the center of the Milky Way. 4th Annual Townie Street Party: Ann Arbor Street Art Fair/The Ark. Dance party with Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, a south Louisiana Cajun band, led by accordionist and vocalist Riley, that plays steamy, sinewy bayou music, and Mifune, a Cleveland jam octet that plays what it calls "Afro-electronique," a polyrhythmic blend of Afrobeat, electronica, and funk. Opening act is the Huron High School marching band drumline. Partygoers can also help assemble the collaborative eco-art project "The Ecology of Place," a collage of satellite images and maps of Washtenaw County with photos, drawings, and stories of the land contributed by the public. The project is led by local eco-artist Leslie Sobel. Also, a kids art fair, with some 40 local kids grades K-8 showing and selling their art under a big tent, and a "townie hall" featuring information about the organizations that help support the Art Fair. The party also features kids activities, street performers, and sale of food, ice cream, beer, and souvenir T-shirts and cups.
