"The Zula Patrol: Under the Weather"/"Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity":
U-M Exhibit Museum Planetarium. Every Monday-Friday. The Zula Patrol (12:30 p.m.) is an animated audiovisual exploration of weather, both terrestrial and interplanetary. Black Holes (2:30 p.m.) is an animated audiovisual show that begins with the formation of the early universe and the birth and death of stars and concludes with a simulated flight to a supermassive black hole lurking at the center of the Milky Way. Followed by a brief star talk.

64th Annual Manchester Community Fair.:July 8-12. "Michigan's biggest little fair" includes midway rides, carnival games, concessions, tractor pulls, a petting zoo with bunnies and chicks, livestock shows with steers, pigs, and lambs, and more. Today, a parade (6:30 p.m.) marches from the fairgrounds through downtown Manchester and back. Nightly entertainment TBA, and a drawing for prizes at 10 p.m. each night.

Staged reading, directed by Purple Rose Theatre artistic director Guy Sanville, of this new Carey Crim drama that's scheduled to premiere at the Purple Rose in the summer of 2009. The action concerns a mortician suffering from agoraphobia whose vivacious mother and precocious teenage daughter try desperately to coax her to leave the safety of her funeral home.

The Ark. This veteran folk-rocker sings engagingly melodic, lushly arranged, moodily atmospheric music that has been described as something of a cross between Cat Stevens and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. He accompanies himself on acoustic guitar and his so-called "infinity device," a complex synthesizer he invented that allows him to function as a one-man symphony orchestra.
